Busy showrooms, crowded floors, and lots of excitement were all part of the recent AmericasMart-Atlanta. Companies rolled out lots of new product and buyers rewarded them with record-setting sales days. The upbeat mood continued later in the month at Dallas Market Center. A variety of butterfly images — seen everywhere, from tabletop to art glass to fashion accessories —could be a fitting symbol for consumers feeling freer to spend again. Incidentally, we were told that fashion accessories continue to be strong sellers and are a great way to bring new, younger customers into your shop.
And on that subject, Performics (www.performics.com), the performance marketing expert within Publicis Groupe, eighth month report on consumer behavior findings from its “2009 Online Buyer Economic Trend Study” has some good news. The findings show Generations X and Y (consumers age 18-44) assisting the economic recovery by continuing to splurge in 2009 on certain types of purchases and looking to the future with optimism.
“We hoped we would see this positive shift in consumer confidence months ago, and that was part of the reason for Performics’ extensive eight-month study of consumer behavior and attitudes during the recession,” said Michael Kahn, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Performics. “The study’s November findings indicate a substantial uptick in positive attitudes, shopping behavior and buying intentions, with younger generations, Gen Y and Gen X, fueling the optimism behind this uptick.”
