It’s showtime! Maybe it is the reporter in me, but I love going
to shows. I enjoy seeing all the new products and the creative
twists on some old familiar themes that companies have on display. I like
the energy and optimism in the air as retailers walk the show in search
of the next great thing. I have to admit, I especially like eavesdrop-
ping on conversations buyers have about what’s been selling and the
sales potential for the various pieces in front of them. And who doesn’t
like the special events put together to show buyers (and others) how glad
they are that you are there?
All this awaits you at the shows. Whether you go to a big show or a regional
one, I hope you will attend at least one show this season. Besides seeing
new products, shows give you a way to reconnect with your suppliers and
check out new sources. Of course, our Giftware News staff will be at
the various shows to bring you back news about the latest trends and new
designs that will make your shop a “must stop by” place.
Speaking of shows, this is our big Show of Shows issue. Be sure to check
out all the info we’ve gathered to help you plan your buying trips. Since
it includes shows for the rest of the second half of the year, it’s handy to
have around — all that information in one place.
And to give you a preview of what is being introduced, you’ll surely want
to take a look at the Market Finds section that Ashley and Mary have put
together. One Texas retailer I talked with at winter market had actually
taken out our last market preview and was carrying around the pages so she
wouldn’t miss anything.
Also in this issue, Mary introduces you to the people behind the inspirational
designs your customers love and she also takes a look at latest designs in
Countrypolitan, a continuing popular look. Ashley will bring you some talented
people and made-in-America products that will make great gifts and give your
customers an added reason to buy.
We also have our Christmas Keepsakes page. These are the pieces that are
given to celebrate the holiday this year and then kept for next year. They are
things of value that become part of family traditions, as stories and
memories intertwine with them over the years.
See you next month-
