“I expect 2008 buying patterns for girls and tweens to include lots of impulse purchases. Fun and pampering are big themes. While the color palette has expanded for this age group and now includes bright green, orange, blue and yellow, basically pink is still very much the ‘in’ color. Pink is frequently grouped with a bright accent color,” says Diane Clark, managing director for Fairy Dust Ltd. Inc.
“Food fragrances continue a strong showing with vanilla, cookie and fruity scents dominating. Our current best sellers are lip gloss, lotion and sugar scrub in strawberry. Cotton candy, vanilla and watermelon are also very popular scents for us in our ‘Create Your Own’ personal care line.
“Looking ahead to 2009, we expect girls to become increasingly sophisticated and to refine their incredible eye for detail. Girls and tweens recognize quality but select products based on packaging. Product quality will begin to impact their choices. Not willing to give up their love of packaging they will look for quality products with great packaging. Fun, shimmery cosmetics and personal care will continue to grow for this market.
